Masterpieces of the late Romantic period by Sibelius, Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky

With three masterpieces from the late Romantic period, this concert takes you deep into the spiritual soundscapes of Northern and Eastern Europe. Jean Sibelius' tone poem "Finlandia" op. 26 is one of the Finnish composer's best-known works and opens the program - a passionate musical appeal for freedom and national identity.

Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto follows with its unique combination of virtuoso radiance and melancholy intimacy.

Finally, Pyotr Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony will be performed - in the so-called Hamburg version, a revision of the score that the composer had made shortly before his death and which had been lost. All the more exciting to experience it live again today. A rare listening experience and a moving musical testimony to Tchaikovsky's inner struggle with fate.
