Atom String Quartet – Jazz trifft Klassik
The Atom String Quartet is one of the most original chamber music ensembles in the world. Free admission!
Founded in Warsaw in 2010, the Polish jazz string quartet combines the expressive possibilities of classical chamber music with improvised elements inspired by jazz, Polish folklore, world music as well as contemporary and classical music. The four musicians - Dawid Lubowicz (violin), Mateusz Smoczyński (violin), Michał Zaborski (viola) and Krzysztof Lenczowski (cello) - are graduates of the Warsaw Academy of Music and pursue their own solo projects alongside their work in the quartet. Since winning the Grand Prix at the Bielska Zadymka Jazz Festival in 2011, the ensemble has performed regularly on major stages in Poland and internationally. Their discography includes the multi-award-winning albums Fade In, Places, Seifert, Penderecki and Karłowicz Recomposed. In 2024, their latest double album Universum was released by Warner Music, which contains exclusively original compositions by the four musicians. The quartet is a sought-after partner for numerous international artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Leszek Możdżer, Branford Marsalis, Kayah, Anna Maria Jopek and Hania Rani. It is also present in contemporary music - for example in the work Testament by Max Richter, which is dedicated to the late Krzysztof Penderecki.
