KinoAufSegeln: THE RIDER
Open-air cinema at the museum shipyard
After a near-fatal rodeo accident, young cowboy Brady Blackburn has to come to terms with the fact that he will never be able to ride again and is plunged into an existential identity crisis: after all, it is not only those around him, but above all he himself, as a Sioux descendant, who defines himself primarily through his work with horses. The disdainful look from his father, the farewell to his disappointed fans and the lack of the unique feeling of freedom that flows through him on the back of a horse weigh heavily.
In breathtaking images of the South Dakota wilderness, THE RIDER tells of broken dreams and lost identities. Authentic and sensitive, the film strikes a balance between tender poetry, archaic myths and the harsh realities of life in the American heartland. The deeply moving film is based on the real lives of its actors. THE RIDER won the Art Cinema Award in Cannes 2016 and the Werner Herzog Film Prize, which honors courage, determination and vision.
