Filmabend "Über Uns Von Uns"
An exciting film evening about a clique of Arab, Kurdish and Romni teenage girls who courageously stage their conflicts and dreams in front of the camera in the East German province.
"About us from us"
A movie by Rand Beiruty
ÜBER UNS VON UNS follows the lives of seven teenage girls on their way to adulthood in Eberswalde, a provincial East German town 55 km from Berlin. As newcomers to the town, the girls not only have to navigate the typical challenges of teenage life such as friendships, school and self-discovery, but also adjust to a new culture and environment and grapple with the nuances of their identities as immigrants and refugees.
Their experiences of displacement, cultural adaptation and the pressure to assimilate add layers to their narratives. Alongside their everyday lives, the director leads workshops in which the girls explore their hopes, dreams and fears through writing, music and acting, and then write scenes to perform on camera. These scenes are transformed into dream sequences in which the girls imagine the future in order to process their painful experiences and playfully transform them into future perspectives.
The film evening is a contribution of the WGG in cooperation with the Integration Officer and the Neighborhood Coordination of the University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald as part of the Intercultural Weeks 2025 (September 19 to October 20) and follows on from the Intercultural Café on 25.09.2025.
Admission is free.
