Literaturgespräch im Falladahaus: Hans Fallada, Kleiner Mann – was nun? (1932)
In our series "Literature Talk in the Fallada House", we discuss Fallada's novel "Little Man - What Now?
In March 1932, Fallada wrote succinctly to his publisher: "Marriage and woe of Johannes Pinneberg, employee, loses his job, gets a job, becomes unemployed for good. One of six million, a nothing, and what the nothing feels, thinks and experiences." Two years later, a brochure published by Ernst Rowohlt stated: "Hans Fallada's world-famous novel, which has won the hearts of readers by storm, has been translated into all cultural languages and has been made into a film twice." So: From Greifswald to the world.
Our conversation will focus primarily on the novel, but also on its reception.
