St John Passion by Joachim von Burck
We cordially invite you to the Passion music on Good Friday, 3 April, at 5 pm in the Marienkirche in Greifswald. The St Mary's Choir under the direction of Silvia Treuer will perform the St John Passion by Joachim von Burck (1546-1610). This work from 1568 is the first Passion setting in music history to be composed in several voices throughout and, as required by the Reformation, in German. The 450-year-old work is therefore also entitled "The German Passion". In its pleasantly meditative flow, it surprises again and again with bold harmonic and extremely colourful twists and turns.
