What does it mean to be a girl in today’s restrictive world?

The documentary “Girls Don’t Cry” explores the longing of six girls from six different countries for a self-determined life in freedom, their desire to fall in love without being patronised, without control over their bodies, and with equal rights.

We see Nancy, Sheelan, Selenna, Nina, Paige and Sinai, aged 14–16, making confident decisions in difficult situations, and fighting courageously against brutal traditions such as female genital mutilation, against social constraints and pressure, and against beauty obsessions and prejudice.

The countries in which the protagonists live are not only miles apart; their living conditions, educational opportunities and rights as women within their societies also differ considerably.

**Die Hyäne Kino is a queer-feminist film collective. Our namesake, the hyena, is arguably one of the queerst mammals. Not only is it impossible to assign it to any specific gender based on its appearance, but it also lives under female leadership. Under the motto “Reclaim the Frame”, we screen a film once a month on a Sunday, alternating between films with a queer theme and those directed by a FLINTA* person.**

The STRAZE is wheelchair accessible. There is a lift and a wheelchair-accessible toilet. All toilets are all-gender toilets. Beanbags are available as alternative seating.
