Tradition that moves with the times - 130 years of WGG

Exhibition to mark the anniversary of the Greifswald housing co-operative

For 130 years, the Greifswald Housing Cooperative has been shaping the face of the Hanseatic city. Founded in 1895 as one of the first building cooperatives in the region, it pursued a clear goal from the outset: to create affordable housing for the people of Greifswald - reliably, in a spirit of solidarity and across generations.

The new exhibition at St. Spiritus now invites visitors on a journey through 13 decades of the history of the town and the cooperative. It shows the challenges and turning points that have characterised the WGG and its members: the difficult years of two world wars, the housing shortage of the post-war period, the fundamental change after reunification and the dynamic development to the present day. The exhibition will be opened on 13 January at 6.30 pm by the WGG board and the Lord Mayor Dr Stefan Fassbinder.

In addition to 13 informative steles, everyday objects from different eras provide a lively insight into how people lived in the past. Today, the cooperative manages over 7,200 flats in all districts of Greifswald - and thus remains a reliable partner for many people at every stage of their lives.

The exhibition is freely accessible during the opening hours of St. Spiritus. Visitors can look forward to many exciting insights into the eventful history of the WGG - and perhaps also discover a piece of their own memory.
