"Germany. A Winter's Tale." Heinrich Heine's travel pictures with the Hermannshof Theatre (Wümme)
Puppet theatre for the Greifswald Literature Spring
In November 1844, the poet Heinrich Heine is travelling from Paris to Hamburg across fog-covered Germany. He condenses the events and places he encounters en route into sharp-tongued verses and also expresses his sadness at the grievances in his homeland. The great hopes and visions of the future of the pre-March era have been destroyed. The Restoration ruthlessly dominates people's thinking with strict censorship and intellectual narrowness.
With his travelogues, Heine gives us an insight into the social life of his time and still amazes us with the topicality of his words 180 years later. A journey through time from 1844 to the present day.
