"MAKE UP YOUR MINDS!" A rousing polemic by Hermann Vinke
Book launch and discussion with Hermann Vinke
If Germany embarks on the path to a new unjust state in the election year 2026, the whole of Europe will fall victim to right-wing extremism. Can this development still be stopped?
Vinke is of the opinion that parliamentary democracy is facing its greatest challenge since the end of the war, and that freedom and the rule of law throughout Europe will be jeopardised if Germany develops into an authoritarian state.
He sees his pamphlet "Decide!" in the tradition of Stéphane Hessel, the resistance fighter of the Resistance and great French diplomat. Hessel published the pamphlets "Empört Euch!" in 2010 and "Engagiert Euch!" in 2011 - appeals that resonated particularly strongly with young people in France and Germany at the time.
Hermann Vinke is an award-winning non-fiction author. He was an editor at various daily newspapers and at NDR. 1981-86 Japan correspondent for ARD, 1986-90 USA correspondent. 1991-92 Head of the ARD studio in Berlin/East Germany. 1992-2000 Programme Director Radio Bremen, 2000-2006 Radio Correspondent for East Central Europe. His book about Cato Bontjes van Beek "Leben will ich, leben, leben" was published in 2020.
