„Vermessen wie die alten Schweden“
The geometric survey of Swedish Pomerania 1692-1709, lecture by Ivo Asmus (University of Greifswald)
The survey results of the survey of Swedish Pomerania, not quite correctly referred to as register maps, represent one of the earliest attempts to fully describe and depict a territory. The geometric, i.e. large-scale maps are accompanied by detailed description and calculation books that link the map signatures with comprehensive information. This source material is, so to speak, only a preliminary stage of a completely different goal, namely the creation of an accurate tax register (a tax register). The lecture will shed light on the origins and nature of the information obtained and the efforts to make the source accessible.
